All nations and all the earth are the inheritance of the Anointed One as He is the Son of God (heir to all that God possesses). The Messiah in the Psalms - Psalms 2 Acts 13:15-39 Pauls use of Ps. 2 evangelizing in the synagogue in Pisidia Antioch Act 13:15-24 And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on. 16 And Paul stood up, and beckoning with the hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, hearken: 17 The God of this people Israel chose our fathers20 and after these things he gave them judges until Samuel the prophet22 he raised up David to be their king; to whom also he bare witness and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My heart, who shall do all My will. 23 Of this man's seed hath God according to promise brought unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus; 24 when

John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel... The Messiah in the Psalms - Psalms 2 Acts 13:15-39 Pauls use evangelizing in the synagogue in Pisidia Antioch Acts 13:27 For they that dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him.32 And we bring you good tidings of the promise made unto the fathers, 33 that God hath fulfilled the same unto our children, in that he raised up Jesus; as also it is written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. 34 And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he hath spoken on this wise, I will give you the holy and sure blessings of David. 35 Because he saith also in another psalm, Thou wilt not give Thy Holy One to see corruption. 36 For David, after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell asleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption: 37 but he whom God raised up saw no corruption. 38 Be it known unto you therefore, brethren, that through this man is proclaimed unto you remission of sins: 39 and by him every one that believeth is justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. The Messiah in the Psalms - Psalms 2 in the NT Heb 1:5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son,

This day have I begotten thee? and again, I will be to him a Father, And he shall be to me a Son? 2Sam 7:14; Jesus greater than angels. Heb 5:4-6 And no man taketh the honor unto himself, but when he is called of God, even as was Aaron. 5 So Christ also glorified not himself to be made a high priest, but he that spake unto him, Thou art my Son, This day have I begotten thee: 6 as he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever After the order of Melchizedek. Rev 2:26-27 And he that overcometh, and he that keepeth my works unto the end, to Him will I give authority over the nations: 27 and He shall rule them with a rod of iron, as the vessels of the potter are broken to shivers; as I also have received of My Father: Rev 12:5 And she was delivered of a son, a man child, who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and unto His throne. Rev 19:15 And out of his mouth proceedeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness of the wrath of God, the Almighty. The Messiah in the Psalms - Psalms 8 - Incarnation Psa 8:4-6 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man, that thou visitest him? 5 For thou hast made him but little lower than Elohim [Heb], and crownest him with glory and honor. 6 Thou makest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; Thou hast put all things under his feet: [man/son of man repeated in Ps 144:3; son of man Ps 80:17 at thy right hand] Heb 2:6-9 But one hath somewhere testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? Or the son of man, that thou visitest him? 7 Thou madest

him a little lower than the angels; Thou crownedst him with glory and honor, And didst set him over the works of thy hands: 8 Thou didst put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he subjected all things unto him, he left nothing that is not subject to him. But now we see not yet all things subjected to him. 9 But we behold Him who hath been made a little lower than the angels, even Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that by the grace of God he should taste of death for every man. The Messiah in the Psalms - Psalms 16 Death, Burial, Resurrection Ps 16:8-11 I have set the Lord always before Me: Because He is at My right hand, I shall not be moved. 9 Therefore My heart is glad, and My glory rejoiceth; My flesh also shall rest [secure] in hope. 10 For Thou wilt not leave My soul to Sheol; Neither wilt Thou suffer Thy Holy One to see corruption. 11 Thou wilt show Me the path of life Acts 2:22-28 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: 23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: 24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it. 25 For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: 26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: 27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hades, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. 28 Thou hast made known to

me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. 11 Thou wilt show Me the path of life Acts 2:29-31 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. 30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; 31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hades, neither his flesh did see corruption Acts 13:34 And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David. 35 Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. 36 For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption: 37 But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption. 10 For thou wilt not leave

My soul to Sheol; Neither wilt Thou suffer Thy Holy One to see corruption. 11 Thou wilt show Me the path of life Heb. hasid means Holy One or Favorite/Chosen One; 32x in OT always in poetic texts; vowel points and Masoretic text require the singular. Silence of 1st c. Jewish authorities in response to the sermons on Pentecost (Peter) and at Pisidia Antioch (Paul) [and all other evangelizing sermons] attest to the reading as singular; no challenges/refutations; singular is attested by oldest and best Hebrew manuscripts (236 codices). See Ps 89:18-20. A plural reading, thy holy ones appears well after the christian era as manuscripts were edited deliberately by Jewish authorities to counter the spread of christianity and christians appealing to the OT texts as messianic prophetic proofs. Jews today read this text w/ the plural holy ones as if this is referring to those people who are righteous and deserving of Gods graces. 11 Thou wilt show Me the path of life Lk 24:25 (two disciples on the road to Emmaus) Then He said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: 26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? 27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto

them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. The Psalms, from David as a prophet, more than any other single writing proclaim details of the Messiah unlike any other book, from incarnation to death/burial/resurrection to enthronement as begotten Son of God and seed of David. Surely these Psalms were used by Jesus on the road to Emmaus to instruct the two disciples in things written long before concerning Him. We must use these as well when we speak to others about the Messiah. The Messiah in the Psalms - Psalms 22 Death / Suffering Ps 22:1,6-8, 16, 18,22 - My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning? 6 But I am a worm, and not a man, A reproach of men, and despised by the people. 7 All who see me sneer at me; They separate with the lip, they wag the head, saying, 8 "Commit yourself to the LORD; let Him deliver him; Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him." 16 They pierced my hands and my feet. 18 They divide my garments among them, And for my clothing they cast lots. 22 I will tell of Thy name to my brethren; In the midst of the assembly I will praise Thee. David (a prophet, by the HS) foresaw his descendent (the seed) suffering a cruel death amid tormenters; the details could only be divinely revealed. Eli, Eli = emphasis is on My; MY God, MY God; deeply personal Isaiah will repeat/confirm these messianic prophecies in Is 41, 49, & 53. Twice the sufferer mentions his mother(not his father) as the one bringing him forth as the descendent of David [recall Gen 3 womans seed] Modern Heb. manuscripts alter v. 16 to like a lion instead of they have

pierced. Matthew uses [Gk: hinati] For what reason in v.1 Mark uses [Gk: eis ti] To what end in v. 1 Mt interprets Ps 22:1 Heb. as lammah; Mk interprets it lemah. Matthew and John record the division of garments AND the gambling or casting of lots for the robe (for it was woven anwqen]; Jn 19:23 v.29 even those who die (go down to the dust) will kneel before Him v.31 - He hath done (it) = Jn 19:30 tetelestai = [it is] finished, completed! 7 All who see me sneer at me; They separate with the lip, they wag the head, saying, 8 "Commit yourself to the LORD; let Him deliver him; Let Him rescue

him, because He delights in him." 16 They pierced my hands and my feet. 18 They divide my garments among them, And for my clothing they cast lots. 22 I will tell of Thy name to my brethren; In the midst of the assembly I will praise Thee. v.31 - He hath done (it) = Jn 19:30 tetelestai = [it is] finished, completed! Only on three occasions a word of completion comes from the mouth of the Godhead: 1. Division between creation and Gods work in providence (Gen 1:31) 2. Division between prophecy and fulfillment concerning death of the Messiah (Ps 22:31 Jn 19:30) 3. Division between history and eternity (Rev 21:6) Gen 1:31 Creation Jn 19:30 Salvation Rev 21:6 Eternity The Messiah in the Psalms - Psalms 40 Incarnation for Obedience Psa 40:6-10 Sacrifice and offering thou hast no delight in; Mine ears hast thou opened: Burnt-offering and sin-offering hast thou not required. 7 Then said I, Lo, I am come; In the roll of the book it is written of me: 8 I delight to do thy will, O my God; Yea, thy law is within my heart. 9 I have proclaimed glad tidings of righteousness in the great assembly; Lo, I will not refrain my lips, O Jehovah, thou knowest. 10 I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation; I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great assembly.

What is best is obedience from the heart where Gods Word has taken root; this does not eliminate sacrifices/offerings as a requirement in the OT. The point is in answering what is best, and in what God delights. Instruments of obedience include the ears (hearing+heeding); the ability to obey has been given by God. Writer of Hebrews (10:5-9) follows the Septuagint (Gk), losing the Heb. metaphor: my ears you have pierced [dug out, unclogged] is changed to a body you have prepared for me. The Messiah in the Psalms - Psalms 40 Incarnation for Obedience Psa 40:6-10 Sacrifice and offering thou hast no delight in; Mine ears hast thou opened: Burnt-offering and sin-offering hast thou not required. Heb. metaphor does not appear among the Greeks (naturally). To dig the ears out was a Heb. figurative expression for imparting certain precepts for rendering others willing to follow. This phrase was/is meaningless in the Greek. [preparing one for obedience] Translators of the Septuagint rendered a dynamic-equivalent to capture the sentiment rather than use word-for-word literal translation of the Heb. to avoid losing the meaning. The idea captured in the Greek is:

You, O Lord, have required nothing outward (sacrifices) but Myself for sacrifice, and that (body) I freely offer to You according to Your Will. The Messiah in the Psalms - Psalms 40 Incarnation for Obedience Psa 40:6-10 Sacrifice and offering thou hast no delight in; Mine ears hast thou opened: Burnt-offering and sin-offering hast thou not required. Heb 10:5-10 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, But a body didst thou prepare for me; 6 In whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hadst no pleasure: 7 Then said I, Lo, I am come (In the roll of the book it is written of me) To do thy will, O God. 8 Saying above, Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein (the which are offered according to the law), 9 then hath he said, Lo, I am come to do thy will. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. 10 By which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. The Messiah in the Psalms - Psalms 45 King & His Bride Psa 45:2-4, 6-8 Thou art fairer than the sons of men; Grace is poured upon

In Ps 45 anointing is explicit (Lk 4:18); oil of joy is metaphor; allusion to burial garments which are spices (Jn 19:39) From Samuel to the Psalms: the things that could have been known of the Seed by 1000 B.C. Samuel was first in the line of prophets and last in the line of judges; transferred his political authority as judge over to the office of king (anointing of Saul, then David); Samuel is the prophet-judge connecting Moses to David in prophecy. What God reveals through Hannah may be considered of David in the physical, and of the messiah in the spiritual; Gods Word through Hannah. Acts 3:24 All the prophets from Samuel onforetold these days; only in Hannahs prayer/prophecy do we have a messianic prophecy in connection with Samuel => recorded by Samuel The Seed as THE Prophet Samuel 1Sa 2:10 The LORD will judge the ends of the earth; And He will give strength to His king, And will exalt the horn (power) of His anointed." Judging nations/peoples, ends of the earth (extent of domain) belongs to the Lord alone; as exalted king only the anointed one judges all the earth. Characteristics of the Messiah as being royal, lawgiver:

1. Promise to Abraham that kings shall come from him (Gen 17:6,16) 2. Promise reaffirmed to Jacob; kings shall come from you (Gen 35:11) 3. Promise of the scepter/staff to Judah (ruling power/judge) Gen 49 a. Obedience (amenability) of all nations promised to the royal-priest seed 4. Promise to give strength/power to the Seed-King, exalt the anointed one, He shall judge all the earth (I Sam 2:10); singular = a certain one. The Seed as THE Prophet time of Samuel (an unknown prophet a man of God) 1Sa 2:27, 35 Then a man of God came to Eli and said to him, "Thus says the LORD: [house of Eli removed from priestly service]; v.31 the days come 35 'But I will raise up for Myself a faithful priest who will do according to what is in My heart and in My soul; and I will build him an enduring house, and it will walk before My anointed always. Faithful = Heb. neeman = used of Davids house/dynasty 2 Sam 7:16 his house and kingdom will endure forever; in I Sam 25:28 = lasting; the house of the coming priest will be secure, firmly established, enduring, and reliable/faithful. I Sam 2:35 => Jn 8:29 only true of the Messiah who always did what pleased the Father; I do always the things that are pleasing to Him. Firmly established house: Moses was faithful IN all (Gods) house (Num 12:7/Heb 3), the Messiah would be enduring and pleasing in all things as a son OVER Gods house (Heb 3:6) The Seed as THE Prophet time of Samuel

(an unknown prophet a man of God) 1Sa 2:27, 35 Then a man of God came to Eli and said to him, "Thus says the LORD: [house of Eli removed from priestly service]; v.31 the days come 35 'But I will raise up for Myself a faithful priest who will do according to what is in My heart and in My soul; and I will build him an enduring house, and it will walk (minister) before My anointed always. House of Messiah would be composed of the offspring and spiritual seed to which He would come to minister as high priest, & for whom He would sacrifice himself for sin. walking house: (1Sa 2:30 Therefore Jehovah, the God of Israel, saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever:); the messiahs house is the new covenant holy people, royal priesthood (Deut 7:6; 14:2; 28:9; I Peter 2:9) v.35 should read: I will raise up for Myself an enduring-faithful priest who will do according to what is in My heart and mind. I will firmly establish His house and it will walk/minister before My anointed one always. The Seed house of God & house of David the Promises 2 Sam 7:13 - Davids house/dynasty instead of David building a house for God, God announces He will make a house [dynasty] out of David, from his seed [v.12], repeating promises He made to the patriarchs and more! Seven (7) provisions in Gods promised dynasty (Gods Word through Nathan): 1. I will make your name great (2Sam 7:9 <= Gen 12:2) 2. I will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant them (v.10 <= Gen. 15:18; Deut 11:24-25) 3. I will also give you rest from all your enemies (2Sam 7:11; Deut 12:9)

4. I will raise up your seed to succeed you (2Sam 7:12; Gen 17:7-10,19) 5. Your seed will build a house for [Gods] Name (2Sam 7:13; I Ki 8:18-20) 6. I will be [your seeds] father, and He will be My son (2Sam 7:14; Ps 89:26f) 7. Davids dynasty, kingdom, authority will endure forever (2Sam 7:16) Heb. usage of forever, everlasting, may have 1 of 3 meanings which is determined by context: (1) enduring for a specific period (eon), (2) enduring under certain conditions for as long as conditions exist, or (3) eternity. The Seed house of God & house of David the Promises 2Sam 7:18-19 David realizes the significance and profoundness of these promises. He recognizes his own insignificance, Gods blessings thus far, and refers to the promises as This is the charter for humanity, O Adonai Yaweh! This is Gods plan for the whole human race through Davids seed. Use of forever in context of the temporal (provincial and transient) means in total context until He comes to whom it (scepter) belongs. God is explicit and infers that Davids seed will rule and endure: physically for a specific period of time and endure under certain conditions (until He comes); his physical ruling seed ends ~586 B.C. spiritually for eternity (in view of the anointed one to deliver up the kingdom to the Father at the end of the new covenant dispensation). Lk 1:32-33 quoting 2Sam 7:18-19 - and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. [I Cor 15:24?] Heb. usage of forever, everlasting, may have 1 of 3 meanings which is determined by context: (1) enduring for a specific period (eon), (2) enduring under certain conditions for as long as conditions exist (Ex:

land promise => if you keep my commandments), or (3) eternity. The Seed house of God & house of David the Promises Gods promises to David through the prophet Nathan foretell several new features about the coming Messiah/Anointed One of God: 1. The messiah will come from Davids flesh and seed [Judah] 2. He will be Davids heir [given Davids throne] 3. He will be Gods son ?! => He will be My son [& seed of David] 4. He will have a special kingdom, rule, and reign that will never end 5. He will surely come one day in the future. The Seed of Woman: Jacob/Israel - (Judah) David Messiah Balaams Prophecy Num 24:16-19 Num 24:16 The oracle of him who hears the words of God, And knows the knowledge of the Most High, Who sees the vision of the Almighty, Falling down, yet having his eyes uncovered. 17 "I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near; A star shall come forth from Jacob, And a scepter shall rise from Israel, And shall crush through the forehead of Moab, And tear down all the sons of Sheth. 18 "And Edom shall be a possession, Seir, its enemies, also shall be a possession, While Israel performs valiantly. 19 "One from Jacob shall have dominion, And shall destroy the remnant from the city."
