History has a way of repeating itself! There

History has a way of repeating itself! There are ancient forces involved with an agenda! Satan and his hosts motivate us to defy Gods will and so thwart His plan at every turn. God is committed to teaching us the importance of faith and obedience. (1 Jn. 4:4; 5:4) 1 Cor. 10 & Heb. 3,4 remind us that God wants to use the lessons of the past (ancient as well as recent) in order to prepare us for our future. (Jer. 29:11)

Mt 21:9-10 Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord all the city was moved, saying, Who is this? Mt 27:22 What shall I do then with Jesus

which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified. Crisis at Kadesh 1 Cor 10:10,11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition. Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith)

To day if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: Hebrews 3:7-8 God wanted His people to experience the blessings of His provision and protection in the promised land as an example to the world. (Ex. 19:6) Satan wanted to frustrate this plan at all costs.

After some 15 months of desert training and faith quizzes Israel arrives at the border of the promised land to face the final exam. Tragically, they failed the test and suffered a humiliating defeat. Some of the reasons for their defeat included: 1. Doubting Gods Word. Nu. 13:1-25 A. Satan is the master of doubt!

Gen. 3:1 Yea hath God said? 2 Cor. 11:3,14-15 transformed into an angel of light he that doubteth is damned (katakrino) for whatsoever is not of faith is sin. Doubt: Distaz: wavering, duplicious. Ro 14:23 Jms 1:6-8

a doubleminded man is unstable in all his ways Some of the reasons for their defeat included: 1. Doubting Gods Word. Nu. 13:1-25 A. Satan is the master of doubt! 2) He cultivates it through worldy wisdom. a) Gods word and will were clear. Deut. 1:20 the LORD thy God hath set the land before thee: go up and possess it, as the LORD God of thy fathers

hath said unto thee; fear not neither be discouraged God said Go but they said: Whoa! Some of the reasons for their defeat included: 1. Doubting Gods Word. Nu. 13:1-25 2) He cultivates doubt through worldy wisdom. b) Human wisdom prevailed. Deut. 1:22 ye came unto me every one of you, and said, We will send men before us, and they shall search the land,

and bring us word again by what way we must go up. Pr 14:12 There a way which seemsme right unto a man, Andisthe saying pleased

well. but the end thereof are the ways of death. c) Once again God gave them their request, but sent leanness into their soul Ps. 106:15 Numbers 13:1-3; Deut. 1: Obedience is doing: what God says,

when God says it, with the right attitude! Some of the reasons for their defeat included: 1. Doubting Gods Word. Nu. 13:1-25 B. They chose a new group of leaders. Nu. 13:4-16 1) Different than the leaders named in Nu. 1,2,7, 10. Everything rises and falls on leadership! 2) They spent 40 days traversing 500 miles

and learned nothing new. the landsurely floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it. Nu. 13:28 Their doubt led to 2.Discouraging Gods People. Nu. 13:26-33; Deut. 1:26-28

13:27 the landsurely floweth with milk and honey; Nevertheless the people be strong , and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there. 28 32,33 we be not able And they brought up an evil

report of the landAnd there we saw the giants, and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers. Amos 2:9 Yet destroyed I the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks Their doubt led to

2.Discouraging Gods People. Vs 26-33; Dt. 1:26-28 A. Discouragement feeds our doubts. Nu 13:3132 We be not able to go up against the people; they are stronger than we. And they brought up an evil report (dibb Slandered) of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel A faith that can't be tested

A. Discouragement feeds our doubts. Nu 13:3132 1) Discouragement spreads quickly. 14:1 all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried;. 2) Discouragement leads to discontentment. 2 And all the children of Israel murmured Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!

A. Discouragement feeds our doubts. Nu 13:3132 1) Discouragement spreads quickly. 14:1 2) Discouragement leads to discontentment. 3) Then they question Gods motives. 3 wherefore hath the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey?

The will of God will never lead us where the grace of God can't provide for us, or the power of God protect us! If our honest prayer is, Not my will, but Thine be done" (Luke 22:42) then what is there to complain about?

B. Doubt easily morphs into disbelief. Ro. 14:23 Whatsoever is not of faith is sin! 1) A complaining spirit is evidence of an ungrateful heart and an un-surrendered will. 2) Our grumbling implies that we know more than God does about what's best for His people! it is God that worketh in youDo all things without murmurings and disputings Ph 2:13,14

Their doubt led to 2.Discouraging Gods People. Vs 26-33; Dt. 1:26-28 A. Discouragement feeds our doubts. Nu 13:3132 B. Doubt easily morphs into disbelief. C. Disbelief leads to Disobedience. Vs 3 were it not better for us to return into Egypt? This is what Satan was after in the first place! Doubt Discouragement

3. Defying Gods Will. (Nu. 14:1-10) This was Satans goal! A. Disbelief defies God! Heb. 11:6 God said Go, and now they said: NO! 4 And they said, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt. Joshua, Caleb: rebel not ye against the Lord vs 9 1 Sam. 15:23 rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft

3. Defying Gods Will. (Nu. 14:1-10) B. Rebellion doesnt respond well to reason. 1) Moses, Aaron, Caleb, and Joshua all tried to reason with them. 14:5-9 a) Those caught in Satans snares usually oppose themselves (2 Tim. 2:25) and ultimately God. Vs 10 But all the congregation bade stone them 2) Those who rebel against God's will are denying His wisdom, questioning His love, and provoking His Judgment.

Doubt Discouragement Defying 4. Deserving Gods Judgment. 14:10-38 Gods judgment seems to follow a pattern. (Ex. 32; Dt. 6) A. Intercession. Vs 11-18 Moses prayed for Gods mercy, referencing His promises. Vs 19 Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.

4. Deserving Gods Judgment. 14:10-38 A. Intercession. Vs 11-18 B. Forgiveness. Vs 20 I have pardoned them C. Discipline. Vs 21-38 22 Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice; 23 Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers!

4. Deserving Gods Judgment. 14:10-38 C. Discipline. Num. 14:21-38 1) Once again God gives them what they asked for. Vs. 2 the whole congregation murmured and said Would God we had died in Egypt or in this wilderness! 28 as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:

Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you from twenty years old and upward, which have murmured against me 5. Disobeying Gods Command. Nu. 14:39-35; Deut. 1:41-46 A. Incomplete Repentance 40 Well go up unto the place the Lord promisedwe have sinned 1) Confessing (after being caught) isnt the same as repenting and submitting!

B. Ignoring Gods directions. Vs 42 Go not up for the LORD is not among you. C. Experiencing the consequences of disobedience. 44-45 This pattern was repeated the passion week! Lk 22:31-32 Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not:

and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. Lk 22:33-34 Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death. I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day,

before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me. Like ancient Israel, when the apostles faced a tough test in Gethsemane: Mt. 26:36-56 watch and pray that ye enter not into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak vs 41 Instead, they slept! Mt 26:38-44

Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled. Matthew 26:56 Application: Theres no substitute for faithful obedience. Trust & Obey! (Pr. 3:5,6) D.L. Moody Real faith is man's weakness leaning on God's strength." Ph. 2:13,14 It is God that worketh in you

both to will and to do of His good pleasure. Do all things without murmurings and disputings That ye may be the sons of God This Tab
