ones Students will be asked to identify the period of a number and the place value. When it comes to the period, look where the number would be located on the chart and think if it would be under the ones period, thousands period or millions period. When identifying the place value, the students will first see which period the number is located in, then the place value under the number. For example, in 184,101,109 the 8 is located in the millions period and in the tens place, so its place value is the ten millions place. Tuesday, August 20th: Millions and Periods
Examples: Find the period of the highlighted section of the number 143,738: ones period 178,936: thousands period 29,739,412: millions period Find the place value of the highlighted digit 143,738: hundreds place 178,936: ten thousands place Wednesday, August 21st Expanded Form Expanded Form is when you break up a number according to its place value and expand it to show the value of each digit
Example: 1,761 1,000 + 700 + 60 + 1 In 1,761 the 1 is located in the thousands place (1,000) In 1,761 the 7 is located in the hundreds place (700) In 1,761 the 6 is located in the tens place (60) And in 1,761 the 1 is located in the ones place (1) *If there is every a zero located in the number, you can either ignore it or add zero.
